CONCENTRIC SLIP, 2023

concentric slip, 2023
enamel paint on steel

‘concentric slip’, utilizes a constructed steel frame as a support for painting. It’s glossy, slick and precise form seduces the viewer with its colourful, optical rhythm, which shifts as you move around the space.

The sculptural space here operates in an autonomous manner to reveal and distort both the material and its surroundings. As a portable offering, coulter attempts to challenge the categorisation between sculpture, object, painting and site-specificity.

In 2022 Emma received a Creative Victoria Sustaining Creative workers Grant to develop a series of folding metal sculptures, for her exhibition, ‘infinite systems’ at James Makin gallery.
