PERFECT PARADOX, 2023
Synthetic Polymer Paint on Linen
102 X 102 x 3.2cm

Acquired by St John of God Healthcare collection

In this artwork, ‘perfect paradox’, Coulter explores the tensions that are at odds in her painting: aesthetics and formal concerns, reduction and ornament, colour, pattern, balance, rhythm, repetition, with an underscore of musical space.

Composed within a restricted boundary, the infinite system of coloured, and tessellated geometric shapes and structures are both self-referential, and formal, whilst also referring to bigger ideas beyond the canvas.

The title ‘perfect paradox’, makes a humorous reference to the illusions of the artworld, and the idea of the, ‘perfect’ paradoxes, that it operates in.
