SHEDDING SKIN SOLO EXHIBITION, 2011
Forty Five Downstairs, Melbourne
A series of highly chromatic, gestural autobiographical paintings, made in 2011 through some pivotal life moments for the artist including births, deaths, trauma and a series of transformative changes.
Though this was Coulter’s fourth solo exhibition, after solo exhibitions, ‘unseen’, Brisbane 2005, and ‘memory space’ and ‘twofold’, 2007, and 2009, Melbourne, Coulter considers ‘shedding skin’ to be a moment in time, where the artist stepped into a new space of departure and renewal concurrently.
